(November 30,- December 2, 2012)
Friday night we went out to dinner with our friends Adam and Shae. When you walk into a restaurant the first thing you do is take off your shoes. Next, you do your best saying hello and how many are in your party. They bring you to a table where you get your cushion and sit on the floor. If you need your server their is a button at each table. We ordered Hanu-modem, a mixed beef platter, it came with a lot of other things that we did not touch. The bright red stuff is raw or cooked crab with some kind of spicy sauce. Our main dish was the meat and it was super good! We grilled it on the silver thing you see in the bottom right corner of the picture. This is one meal that we split with 4 people. It cost us around $37 so it was about &18.50 per couple.
We tried grilling the raw onions and garlic and our waitress did not like that. She gave us a very ugly look and changed out our grill.
Saturday morning we left for Costco in Daegu (It is about an hour North of where we live). After shopping we got really hungry and decided to search for a Kraze Burger (a burger place that is more like burger places in the west). We were sure one would be in Daegu. On our way there, we saw a Vespa store and had to stop. The guys were super excited.
If you look closely to the tree next to Nick you can see something wrapped around it. Well the people wrap these around the trees to collect bugs. They go there to keep warm and get stuck. During the spring they take them off and burn them, killing all the bugs.
This is an AWESOME three wheeler. The guy let us go and sit in it. So much fun!
This is Adam and Shae. They are from California. Shae is our lead teacher and Adam... well he is just Adam.
We left the Vespa shop empty handed and made our way to the GPS coordinates of Kraze burger and BELOW is what we found.
(as you can see that sign does not say Kraze Burger)
"Who's Bob" was a club, NOT a burger joint. We walked around and found what looked like a good sports bar/pizza place. We stopped in and ordered a pepperoni pizza and to our surprise when they brought it out it had mushrooms and onions as well as pepperoni all over it :/ The sauce was pretty spicy, too. We ate it anyway because hey it's pizza.
We walked around the downtown area and stopped in for some Baskin Robins Ice Cream, thinking it would be a safe bet, but it wasn't. I ordered mint chocolate chip and cookies N Cream and mine was yummy! Nick ordered chocolate and it had the worst after taste (it tasted like Kimchi) I'm pretty sure they had the ice cream in the same refrigerator as the kimchi.
We left and made our way home.
Early Sunday morning we got up and caught the 7:30 bus to Changyneong.
This is a picture of me giving Nick a look that I do so well.
(she looks like a little school girl)
We made it to Changyneong early enough to catch the 8:00 bus to Daegu so we hopped on it.
We we got to Daegu it was snowing! Below is proof of the snow.
After we get off the bus we walk to the subway, good thing it isn't very far.
This is the subway stairs where we come up so we can walk to church. It is a good 10-15 min walk to church. After church we walked back to the subway where Adam and Shae picked us up and took us home.
On our way home we got close to this super cool bridge. It is being built for a new train.
When we got home it was was almost 6 pm. We were starving because it was fast Sunday. We were very grateful that Adam and Shae let us borrow their toaster oven. We are also very grateful to Costco for stocking cheese and salami because we were able to make quick little pizzas on bread. YUM! We had such a great weekend!
I am loving catching up on your adventure! What a great opportunity to experience all of this!
