What we do everyday

December 7, 2012
I thought it was about time to introduce ya'll to our friends here in Korea and let you know what we do.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Currently we start work at 12:30 pm and take a dinner break at 6 pm back to work by 7 and home at 9 pm
We teach 4 periods (they are 45 min long) between 12:30 and 4:30 pm. We have plenty of planning time! During our planning time we write a daily report, reflecting on what was taught during each period and plan. Then at the end of the week we type up a weekly report and a student report. our schedule will be changing soon because of winter break. The students get the whole month of January off of school, at this time we have a group of students everyday for two weeks from 8:30 am-5 pm with a 1 hour break for lunch.

We (The teachers) create all of our teaching materials for a year and form a book. This book is printed and given to each group of students that come to English camp. We plan our materials around simulation rooms (rooms that simulate real life environments) which are: airport, hotel, post office, bank, and hospital. The students learn dialogue and vocabulary for each room then, we visit and explore. We also have a science room, art room, language lab, and auditorium.
We interview all the students on Monday and divide them into classes according to their English speaking ability. Right now we have 6 teachers teaching English camp which gives us a classroom size of 10-15 students each week. The other two teachers are in Cyber school.

I have only taught two classes so far and this one was my favorite. They are from Namji Girls Middle School.

Every week we have a different group of students that all go to the same school. We will only see these students once a year. We teach English camp from 1 pm-4:30 pm and then we might have a night class from 7:30-8:30 pm. If we aren't teaching the evening class we have an English class with our director. She will pick an article and then we read a few sentences then she will repeat. It is a great way to get to know one another and have some great conversations.

Another part of our program is our Cyber school (This is where Nick is right now). He has 3 or 4 classes a day starting at 3 pm and the last class is from 8-8:45 pm. He teaches students while they are at home or at the end of their school day.

Interesting picture to get Nick and his picture.

The Korean children are constantly at school. Most of them get home around 5 or 6 in the evening have dinner and then go to supplementary private schools called 'Hogwans' until 8. They wake up early each morning just to do it all over again. I feel bad for the children and try to do my best to make my class fun for them.

If you have any questions about our day ask by commenting below or email me!
